Typo St.Gallen
Together with Willio.Studio, we were invited to pitch our concept for the Typo St.Gallen design competition. The conference theme, “What Nobody Talks About,” inspired a bold, minimalist approach built around a single visual metaphor.
Task
Develop a visual identity for the conference that reflects the theme of taboo topics and sparks curiosity. The design had to include a recognizable logo, adaptable visual elements for different media, and an engaging motion component for speaker presentations.
Concept
We chose the dash as our central design element, a subtle yet powerful symbol for omission, silence, and everything left unsaid. This dash became the core of the identity: integrated into the logo, typographic system, and motion graphics. It serves as a visual representation of the unspoken, directly linking back to the event’s theme.
Solution
The dash appears across all communication touchpoints. For speaker presentations, we created an animation in which the dash moves across their mouths, symbolizing the very barriers the event aims to break. The restrained color palette and typographic clarity ensure that the concept remains striking yet flexible, working seamlessly across print, digital, and motion applications.
