Druckabfall

At the age of 26, I suffered a heart attack. This book processes the profound experience and emotional strain that shaped my health, my perspective, and ultimately my life. It tells an intensely personal story—my physical and psychological recovery and how I came to terms with this turning point.

       Task
Create a book that transforms a deeply personal experience into a tangible, visual narrative. The design should evoke the emotional and physical impact of a heart attack while remaining conceptually consistent and deeply symbolic.

     Concept
Every aspect of the design draws inspiration from the human heart. The four chambers of the heart informed the layout grid; veins and arteries inspired the color system. Typography incorporates sharp ink traps and tight line spacing to create tension, while visual disruptions mimic the feeling of unease. Signal colors amplify urgency and vulnerability.

The design also embraces the imperfection of risograph printing. Its unpredictable textures and occasional misalignments create a sensory experience that echoes the fragility and disruption of the event itself—almost uncomfortable, yet deliberate.

     Solution
The result is an editorial work where form and content are inseparable. Each design decision, whether in structure, type, or color, reflects an element of the heart and the experience of crisis. The book does not merely tell a story; it makes the reader feel its intensity, bridging the gap between narrative and emotion.
