Design Hero
Based on the values of designer Louis Rubi — fun, individuality, and slow fashion — this interactive book concept rethinks the relationship between clothing and personality. At its core, the idea is to experience fashion in a playful yet conscious way: clothing should be long-lasting, inclusive for all body types, and an authentic expression of identity.
Task
Create an editorial concept that combines interactive elements with storytelling, encouraging readers to reflect on their personal style while promoting the principles of slow fashion. The book should serve as both a source of inspiration and a creative tool for self-expression.
Concept
The book itself functions as a design object. Its shape references Rubi’s iconic orange spine, expanding into an oversized format when opened. A calm, natural color palette dominates the design, interrupted only by a bold orange line as a recurring visual motif.
The back of the book includes detachable transparent pages that allow readers to create their own lookbook, making the experience personal and participatory.
Solution
In addition to interactive exercises, the content critically addresses the problems of fast fashion and emphasizes the benefits of slow fashion. Quotes and statements, reflecting Rubi’s playful communication style, punctuate the layout, striking a balance between education and creativity.
The result is a hybrid between editorial design and an activity book: a visually appealing, interactive experience that invites readers to engage deeply with fashion as a sustainable and individual practice.
