3. Editorial Design
Druckabfall - Diplom 2
At the age of 26, I had a heart attack.
In this book, I process the profound experiences and emotional stress that have shaped my health and my life.
It tells my very personal story, my physical and psychological recovery, and how I dealt with this stroke of fate.
The entire design of the book is modeled after the heart. From the four chambers of the heart in the layout, the veins and arteries in the colors, the incisive elements in the font with ink traps, the tightness in the line spacing, to the signal colors and disturbances in the risograph printing, which almost hurts when you experience it yourself... All design elements are derived from the heart and my experiences and translated into the finished book. Each element refers to my heart and the heart attack in order to bring my personal story closer to the viewer and allow them to empathize.
Book Design, Louis Rubi - Design Hero
Based on the values of designer Louis Rubi—fun, individuality, and slow fashion—an interactive book concept was created that rethinks clothing and personality.
At its core is the idea of experiencing fashion in a playful and conscious way: clothing should be wearable for a long time, suitable for all body shapes, and an expression of one's own identity. The book invites readers to engage creatively with their own wardrobes – through exercises, suggestions, and space for their own “Outfits of the Day.”
Design & concept
The book itself is a design element: its shape is based on Rubi's iconic orange spine and becomes oversized when the pages are opened. The design uses natural, calm colors, interrupted only by the striking orange line – as a visual leitmotif. At the back, transparent pages can be removed to create your own lookbook.
Contents In addition to interactive elements, the book also addresses the problems of fast fashion and focuses on the principles of slow fashion. Quotes and statements – based on Ruby's communication style – underline the critical yet playful approach to fashion.
Editorial design for Perfume
I developed a complete editorial design for Patrick Süskind's Perfume, including cover design, layout, and typographic concept.
The focus was on the visual implementation of the central metaphor of scent: the names of the characters appear as a recurring element in the footer of the book, creating a subtle, typographic “scent cloud.”
In addition, margin notes enhance the reading experience with background information on historical, cultural, and geographical aspects—from perfume production to 18th-century Paris.
