2. Branding
Papiermühle Basel — Museum
I developed a comprehensive corporate design for the Basel Paper Mill Museum – from the logo and signage to shop visualizations.
The design is based on the historic half-timbered house and the water wheel that still powers the mill today. These elements were incorporated into the logo design and form the basis for a consistent design language throughout the entire appearance.
The color scheme is minimalist: bold black represents traditional printing ink and echoes the heavy craftsmanship of old printing plates. The contrast between black and white reflects the character of historical printing techniques – from papermaking to bookbinding.
The paper, the thread binding, the craftsmanship—all of this is evident in every element.
Font
The Helvetica font originated near Basel – originally designed as Neue Haas Grotesk at the Haas type foundry in Münchenstein.
Given this regional connection, I deliberately chose Helvetica as the corporate font for the new look. Its clarity, timelessness, and local roots make it the ideal basis for modern yet tradition-conscious branding.
